James, I love your street photography and I have a question! The subject always seems to be oblivious to being photographed - how close do you get for these photos, and do you set up somewhere to take several shots over the course of time, or do you just see a fantastic subject and get your camera out? Looking forward to your regular posting once work allows you to!

I try to get as close as possible without them noticing me (I was probably three or four or so feet away for this.) I shoot walking around a decent amount, but my favorite technique is to find a background beforehand with good foot traffic and I hang out and act like I'm just photographing the background. This way I can photograph extremely close without people knowing I'm taking a photo of them. Here's a link to an article I wrote where I went into this technique further: http://www.craigfergusonimages.com/2010/07/the-street-photograph-vs-the-street-portrait/
