Spider

I once met a person who sold ice cream out of an ice cream truck and he said his favorite part of the job was picking the right flavors to give to drug addicts when they came to purchase ice cream.  I forget exactly what he told me, but he would give the stronger flavors, such as a spicy hot pepper ice cream to many of the addicts because their taste buds were shot from the constant drug use.  Their eyes would light up.

For the more paranoid people he would give vanilla, because vanilla is a very comforting and 'homey' flavor.

James, Just a general note here, non-specific to "Spider". As an ex-patriate NYC'er living in LA, yours is one of several NYC photo-blogs that I visit daily and one of a small number that I promote to other exes and my people "bahkeest". What I most appreciate about your work is its accessibility and honesty; more often than not you're on the street, in the middle of the activity, shooting up at the human beings you seek to illuminate, elevating them (to my eye) -- even those we might be tempted to look down on. I find great dignity in your images. Further, you tell us the where and why. You look to communicate, unlike some blogs that deem their "art" too precious to contaminate with relatable human subjects, exposed motivations or even locations. (See "http://urbanimagephotography.com/wordpress"). Thank you, James. It's a pleasure each and every day. Paul

Paul thank you for the comment. It's the favorite that I've ever received about my work and will be the highlight of my week. This blog thing is so amazing, how a person that I've never met and who I did not know until now followed my stream, could explain what I aim to do better than I could myself. Elevating people; communicating ideas; accessibility; relatable human subjects. Pardon if I don't use many of these terms in the future.
