84E

1/60th at F2.8, ISO 1600 (55mm).

Sometimes I feel like the internet and its mass of photos and daily sharing has led people, me included, to want to capture these attention grabbing, magical, contrasty, colorful scenes where lots of things seems to be happening.  Those are the photos that get noticed the most, for obvious reasons.

Compare this to the last photo.  I personally like this one better.

Let's bring back the understated scene.

I've said before, I prefer these kind of shots. Getting around my own neighbourhood, i'm always on the lookout for older nooks and crannies rather than people/street shots. The colour adds to the shot, glad you kept it. The card in the door grabs your attention, the red ribbon is more intriguing though (whats it there for?). So many lines as well, strong vertical aliminium frame, concrete ledge leading in from the bottom left, cris-crosses of the screens and wires in the glass door and the horizontal and vertical gaps in the bricks. Simple shot, but lots happening, i really like it.

Ha, kc's comments notwithstanding, I think it's time you got out of the city, at least for a short while. ;-) Ok, maybe this a phase you're working through but the garbage as mountains has got me worried!

KC exactly - and also it gives a feeling of the anonymity of city life. The broken front door, the dirty entryway. It looks almost abandoned and yet you can see the 15 or so buttons and lit mailboxes of people's apartments. The red ribbon almost seems like a sign that yes someone does actually live here. Lots of people do.

Ha Steve, it's true - photography's kind of a coping mechanism.
