Lookalikes

http://www.jamesmaherphotography.com/images/0000/4389/couples.jpg

You ever notice how couples tend to look alike?  It's one of my favorite things to notice.  I find that it's mostly in the jaw structure, but then over time as couples start to dress and act similarly, it's pretty amazing.

How intriguing. I'm going to be looking out for this now! Your shots explain it perfectly.

It's funny, I told my wife about this theory about 5 years ago and now she points it out way before I notice it. There even is/was a dating site based on this premise that scanned people's faces and found them matches based on people with similar features.

Ha ha. I wonder how much success that website had. It would be fascinating to know...

This post really hit home. I have a feeling my significant other and I are in this category too. I'll have to look for some Chicago lookalikes when I'm shooting street.

I like this. Look at the detailed glasses on the second couple. James, glad you liked the photos. I sent them while I was out after work the other day and wasn't sure if you got them. I will try to get a couple shots in the natural light as well. Everyone comments on them when they come over. :)

I think it's still in Beta, but I doubt it'll have much success. It's a cool idea, but not very practical.

Andrew you'll find that once you start noticing it you can stop. It's everywhere!

Thanks Karen! I'm happy to hear that about the comments they are getting!

I've always thought street photography was the domain of B+W but seeing your colors has changed my mind, thank you.

I take that as a big compliment Jack, thank you. I used to be mostly black and white as well, but I've changed over time. I like both depending on the circumstance.

Really interesting. I am curious, have people ever react on you shooting them on the street?

Thanks - occasionally yes but I just talk to them and show them the photos. As of yet it's never been a problem, but you gotta be careful with who you photograph and how you do it. Both of these people above didn't notice me.

I have to follow up on Mihovil's question and ask how do they not notice you when it looks like they're about to trip over you!? Just came across your site. Love the images so far! I'm not too interested in photographing people but perhaps I will give it a try some time. My subject matter is less likely to complain(ie 'Einhorns' shot).

Thanks Christopher! They do notice me sometimes and sometimes it's so crowded or their walking somewhere so they don't pay attention. Generally, a shot like this is where I pick a spot and wait for them to pass me, so it's not like I'm encroaching on their space. I'm just waiting for them to pass me.
