Jerry Delakas is a neighborhood fixture in the East Village.  Jerry has worked as the newsman on Astor place for the last 24 years. The City began trying to get rid of him in 2011, leading to the neighborhood fighting to keep him there with a "Save Jerry" campaign.  As of 2012, he is still there.
