There is the irony here of a beautiful image of pollution, in this case being the three Long Island City smokestacks overlooking the edge of the East River. 

The backlight of the rising sun gave the smoke a painterly reddish hue which created a beautiful reflection in the water.

There was actually a rainbow in the background of this scene, but it was too slight to be able to bring out without ruining the print.
