This photo was taken from the north edge of Sheep Meadow on the south end of Central Park. 

Centered in the photo is 7th Avenue, which cuts straight through the city and leads to the lights of Times Square, which are visible in this photo.

You can see the trees and lampposts of the park at the bottom.  It looks as if someone sliced the city in half with a knife.
